This VI gives you the path to file for saving programm settings.  The filename for this file is optionally settable on VIs input. You may think it's not exceeding, but in really it is.

The problem may come, if you save your programm settings near your executable. So if the user has no write permissions for the programm files directory, what in fact is in mostly the case, the programm can't save settings there, because usually the user works not as windows administrator.

 

This VI creates also automaticaly a directory with the name of your application. Under Windows XP it should be:

 

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Name of your application

And creates than there the file for programm settings.
